FAQs

Do I have to be a Buddhist to come along?

Absolutely not.  Meditation and other Buddhist mind-training tools can benefit anyone, whatever your perspective on life.  If an event is only suitable for those with experience of Buddhist practice, it will say so in the information for that event.

What time can I arrive?

You are welcome to turn up a bit early before any event - arrive, land, get yourself a cup of tea or even give us a hand with putting out mats and cushions.

You mentioned shared lunch on all-day events - can you say more?

Bring some vegetarian or vegan food to share and join us - whether you're just coming for the morning, the afternoon or both sessions.  (This can be very simple eg: houmous and a baguette, or a salad).  Of course it's also fine if you prefer to head off to find yourself some lunch.   We tend to break for lunch between 1 - 2pm.

Are there tea breaks?

There are always tea breaks!  Herbal teas, black tea, instant coffee and vegan biscuits are provided.

Do I need to book?

Usually not - unless the event specifically asks you to book, then it’s fine just to turn up.

Do I need to bring anything?

No - meditation mats, cushions and blankets are provided.  If you wish to bring your own meditation gear, however, feel free.   Some people like to bring notebooks to write down key points - and some people just listen!

What do events cost?

WWBG does not exist to make money!  Yet we need money to continue to offer events and teachings.  Most of our events are run on a basis of generosity (dana).  We suggest a donation of £5-10 for an evening or morning event or £10-20 for a whole day event, but if that's not possible for you, come anyhow, and give what you can.

WWBG teachers do not get 'paid' - they are giving their wisdom and experience freely so that as many people as possible can benefit.

Who can come to events marked 'regulars'?

Anyone familiar with the two main Triratna meditation practices, the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana.  Just turn up!

Mobile Phones

To allow you and others to be fully present, please take the period of the event as a 'technology detox'.  We ask all attendees to switch their phones to airplane mode (not just silent) during sessions.  If you urgently need to check something you can always go outside during breaks
