Info & FAQs

What time are the events?

Different events vary, and you can usually find more info on the events page.  Monday evening events are 19:00-21:00. Saturday Morning drops ins are 10:00-12:30 or occasionally 13:00 and whole day Saturday’s are 10:30-17:00 although some teachers prefer a shorter lunch break and finishing at 16:30.

What time can I arrive

You are welcome to turn up from 15 minutes before any event starts, and if you are totally new to meditation we really encourage this so we can help you find a useful posture.

You mentioned lunch on all day events, can you say more?

We tend to break for lunch between 13:00 & 14:00/14:15. You can leave the building and come back, but a group of us eat together in the hall, so why not bring some vegetarian or ideally vegan food to share and join us. Open whether you come for morning, afternoon or both sessions. We also provide beverages during breaks.

Do I need to book?

Usually not - unless the event specifically asks you to book, typically just introductory courses, then it’s fine just to turn up.

Do I need to bring any equipment?

Not initially, mats, cushions, blankets although as they deepen their meditation, some people do choose to

What do events cost?

Events are run on a basis of generosity (dana).  You don't have to pay to come along. We suggest a donation of £5-10 for an evening or morning event or £10-20 for a whole day event, but if that's not possible for you, come anyhow, and give what you can.  The volunteers that run our activities give their time, energy and knowledge freely so that as many people as possible can benefit.

Where are events held?

In-person events are held at Ty Cwrdd Y Crynwyr Quaker Meeting House, Maes Maelor, Penparcau, SY23 1SZ Aberystwyth, United Kingdom

I’m new to meditation and Buddhism – which events are suitable for me?

Generally, any event except, the Saturday afternoon events are suitable. We run classes for people newer to meditation and Buddhism at least once a year Please Get in touch  if you’d like to come along but can’t see any current events marked ‘Introductory’.

If you are new to meditation, and have any health issues, (physical, emotional or mental), that could affect your participation in our sessions, feel free to email us @ westwalesbuddhistgroup@gmail.com and ask to talk confidentially to one of our Order Members, who will help you decide whether or not to attend.

Do I have to be a Buddhist to come along?

Absolutely not.  Meditation and other Buddhist tools can benefit anyone, whatever your perspective on life.  If an event is only suitable for those with experience of Buddhist practice, it will say so in the information for that event.

Who can come to events marked 'regulars'?

Everyone familiar with the two main Triratna meditation practices, the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana.  Just turn up!

Is there anything else I need to know?

To avoid disturbing others, and to allow you to just let go of the cares of the day for a short while, we ask all attendees to switch their phones to airplane mode (not just silent) during sessions. If you desperately need to check something you can always go outside during breaks
